Homosexuals in Hiding
  By Meredith Ashlan

A Gay Couple Among
the Mountain Men

It was at the end of the 1980s that a chance discovery led me to uncover a vast but informal international network of men who form what I have chosen to call the Hidden Homosexual Community. They are men who accept their homosexuality as a fact of life rather than as a way of life. The attitude of some of them is summed up in the words of one man I spoke to: “I don’t want to live in a gay ghetto. I have no more pride in my sexual orientation than I would have if I was a heterosexual. It’s the way God and nature made me and I accept it. I have no problem with it, and if others do then that’s their problem.

In their own words, then, read the stories men  who consider themselves gay and choose to live their lives in ways other than you and I -- and the Gay Community -- might expect.
